Inspired by cinema and fashion photography, Silas’s fictional characters come to life through a material made up of book pages and paint. Collages, graphite pencil, acrylic paints and oil paint shape a youth with singular beauty. Through the successive layers, enigmas appear like fingerprints. The writings and drawings are inscribed in the contours of the skin, like so many mysteries to be solved.
In a changing world, Silas’s faces show great confidence in the future. Each look carries the hope of happiness to be found.

Silas (Schletterer) was born in 1976 in Middelburg, Netherlands. Graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy of Arts in 2 000, he lives and works in Rotterdam.
